Y&R Character History - Chancellor Katherine Chancellor
First Year On The Show - 1973 Character Summary: Katherine Chancellor first appeared as a very wealthy socialite married to Phillip Chancellor. In 1973, Katherine hired Jill, who was her former manicurist, as her personal secretary/hairdresser. Katherine also was an alcoholic and her marriage to Phillip was not going well. In 1975, Kay bribed Brock to marry Jill to get her out of Phillip's life, as Phillip and Jill had fallen in love. Phillip got a quickie divorce in Haiti. In 1976, Kay learned Phillip had divorced her and she met him at the airport to drive him home and they ended up going off a cliff. Phillip was severely injured and married Jill on his deathbed. Kay had to deal with Jill giving birth to Phillip's son and a court battle for the mansion. Kay resumed drinking again. In 1977, Kay decided she wanted to marry Derek Thurston, a salon owner, and promised him his own salon for one year of marriage. In 1978, Derek's ex wife showed up and drugged Kay and got her sent to a mental hospital. At the hospital, Kay's roommate ate more of the candy and burned the place down and died. Kay made it look like she was dead and came back to haunt Suzanne, driving her crazy. In 1979, Kay made Derek head of Chancellor Industries, but replaced him with Victor Newman later that year. In 1980, Kay made Derek head of Chancellor again and the two went on a cruise where Kay ended up overboard and stranded on an island. In 1981, Kay was rescued and cme home to torment Derek and then divorced him. In 1985, Kay sent John the photos of Jack and Jill together and he had a stroke. In 1986, Jill's son Phillip came back to town and moved in with Kay. In 1987, Jill hired Rex Sterling to romance Kay and it worked. In 1988, Jill and Kay teamed up to try and get Nina out of Phillip's life, but they failed. In 1989, Rex's old cellmate CLint Radison came to town and dug up a look alike waitress to impersonate Kay named Marge. In 1990, Marge posed as Kay and Clint kidnapped Kay, but Brock discovered the truth. In 1992, Rex and Katherine were remarried. In 1994, Kay's maid Esther fell for a con artist named Norman who tried to rob Kay's safe. Rex discovered Norman and he shot and killed Rex. In 1997, Kay had a facelift and so did her real life portrayer Jeanne Cooper, on the air. In 1999, Kay and Jill were awarded joint custody of the mansion and moved in together. Kay's granddaughter MacKenzie came to town to live with them. In 2001, Mac's mother Amanda showed up in town and Kay let her move in as well. In 2002, Mac's no good stepfather Ralph showed up and kidnapped Kay. Kay was rescued and Amanda and Ralph both left town. In 2003, Kay was revealed to be Jill's biological mother. The two are now trying to work through this new revelation after years of bitterness and fighting. Jill Abbott
First Year On The Show - 1973 Character Summary: Jill first appearance on the show was as a manicurist. She went to work for one of her wealthy customers, Katherine Chancellor, as a personal secretary. In 1974, Jill found herself in love with Kay's husband Phillip. Kay's husband Brock returned to town and fell for Jill as well. In 1975, Kay bribed Brock to marry Jill and she accepted to give Phillip's baby a name. In 1976, Jill married Phillip on his deathbed and later gave birth to a baby boy named Phillip. In 1977, Jill got a job at a salon managed by Derek Thurston who ended up married to Kay. In 1978, Jill conned Stuart Brooks into marrying her by claiming she was pregnant. When he found out she lied, Jill refused to divorce him. She eventually did divorce him and got ready to marry Kay when Katherine broke up the wedding. In 1980, Jill went to work for Jabot and met John and Jack Abbott. In 1981, Jill decided she wanted John, but he refused and she ended up in bed with Jack and John saw them together and he left town. In 1982, Jill got involved with Andy Richards for a brief time. John Abbott returned to town and Jill went back to work at Jabot. Jill and John were married that year. In 1983, Jill fixed it for Patti to see Jack and Diane making love and it caused Patti to lose her baby. In 1984, Jill became pregnant, but miscarried. Jill's husband John started seeing his first wife Dina again. Kay got her hands on the photos of Jack and Jill together. In 1985, Kay sent John the photos and he had a stroke and divorced Jill. After, Jill got involved with the Abbott gardener Brad Carlton. In 1986, Jill's son Phillip returned to town and lived with Kay. In 1987, Jill hired Rex Sterling to romance Kay. In 1988, Jill started an affair with her assistant David Kimble. Jill also teamed up with Kay to try to get Nina out of Phillip's life but they failed. In 1989, Jill's son Phillip was killed in a drunk driving accident. In 1990, Jill started dating John again. In 1992, Jill dated Blade Bladelson and had an affair with Victor Newman. Later that year she moved back into the Abbott house. In 1993, Jill and John were remarried and Jill gave birth to a boy named Billy. In 1994, Jill and John divorced and had a bitter custody fight for Billy. In 2001, Jill started dating a much younger Sean. In 2002, Jill started to see Larry Warton. In 2003, Jill learned that Kay was her biological mother. The two of them began trying to work through this new development. Jill started to drink heavily and took an interest in Bobby Marsino.
