Subscription FAQ
The cost of a one year subscription for All Soap Scoops went up to $10.00 a year starting February 27, 2006. This is the first increase in subscription cost in over 4 years. The increased cost is due to increased cost for site hosting and bandwidth and the lack of advertising on the site to cover those costs. Thank you for your understanding and support. Q. Why is All Soap Scoops charging for part of the site after being free for so long? A. All Soap Scoops has decided to start charging for part of the site for many reasons. 1. The cost of the running the site is going up each and every year and is currently paid in full by the editor/owner of the site. The site has almost 4 million hits per month and this kind of traffic costs a LOT of money. The site continues to grow in traffic and the cost continues to go up. The site editor/owner gets no payment for any work done on the site and therefore all costs are out of their own pocket. The site cost is just one cost of running the site, there is cost for Internet connection, resource materials for the site, and of course the hours and hours spent working on the site. Eventually, this cost will be too much for one person to pay and the site would go offline. 2. Out of almost 4 million hits per month and being online for 4 years with All Soap Scoops, 10 people have donated any money towards the support of the site. This amount would not cover the costs of running the site. 3. Online advertising has hit the very bottom and ads on the site generate a few dollars a month, in a good month. Most ads on the site generate NO income at all. Online advertisers have gone to a cost per action/transaction method of paying any money and site visitors must purchase something from the ads for the site to get any money, not just click on them. Most advertisers do not pay for clicks on ads anymore and those that do pay very, very little, which amounts to almost no revenue from site ads. 4. A lot of people volunteer a lot of time and effort into making All Soap Scoops a great site. None of these people are paid anything for their efforts, including the site editor/owner. Many, many hours are spent updating, maintaining, adding new features, etc. to the site each and every week on top of full time jobs and families. Q. What about those people who have donated? A. People who have donated to the site will automatically receive membership. Those people will be contacted by the editor with details of their membership. Q. What do you get for membership to All Soap Scoops?
A. All Soap Scoops Membership includes the following: Q. What about the rest of the site? A. The rest of the site will be free as before. There will be some news and very few scoop items posted in the free sections, but the expanded scoops, breaking news, rumors and the other things listed above will be in the membership section only. All other sections such as cast lists, links, family trees, song lists, where are they now, did you know, weekly recaps, monthly recaps, the coming yearly recaps, FAQ pages, the past soaps pages, and some more upcoming new pages will still all be free. Q. What if I am already a forum member? A. It appears that if you were subscribed to the forum before the web site subscription went into effect that the username on the forum shows as taken when you sign up for the web site. Previous forum members still have access to the forum even if they did not sign up for the web site subscription. If you were not a forum member before the site subscription went into effect, you will have to become a site member to post on the forums. However, previous forum members are not automatically subscribed to the web site. So, if you were a forum member previous to the site subscription and you want access to the web site scoops, news, rumors, etc. you will have to subscribe to the web site. Some previous forum members have to get new usernames for the web site subscription and some don't. Q. How much does subscription cost? A. Subscription is only $10.00 a year. That breaks down to 2.7 cents a day. The 10.00 covers ALL soaps, ALL of the site, everything. If you visit several soaps on the site you do NOT have to pay 10.00 for each one. It's 10.00 for everything. There are other online soap message forums that charge as much as $25 a year just to post on the forum. Q. How long does it take to activate my subscription? A. If you pay using a credit card and PayPal, the subscription is activated almost immediately. If you subscribe using PayPal and an ECheck it can take up to 5 days for the subscription to be processed through the subscription software. If you pay with a money order, it will take as long as your payment takes to get to me and for me to get it from my PO Box and manually enter your subscription into the subscription software. Q. Can I pay my subscription by mail?
A. Yes. All payments must be made out to Deborah Horton.
Q. Is there a FREE subscription? A. No, there is no FREE subscription, but many parts of the site are still free to view. Q. Can I share my subscription with other people? A. No. Only 1 subscriber per subscription and multiple users are tracked through the software. AOL USERS MUST READ - AOL 9.0 and higher hijacks the sign on boxes and puts in their Passport sign in when you try to sign into the site. AOL does this at almost all sites where you have to sign in to get in, not just pay subscription sites, but any site that requires you to have a subscription and sign on such as discussion forums. If you try to sign on to All Soap Scoops with AOL 9.0 it most likely will not work. Recently, some AOL users have even found if they try to use Internet Explorer the AOL software will STILL pop up the passport sign in boxes instead of your All Soap Scoops sign in boxes. I am not sure the results if AOL users try to log on using Netscape. Please be aware that there is NOTHING that can be done on All Soap Scoops side of things to stop this from happening. It is a competely AOL software malfunction. If you want to join All Soap Scoops and you use AOL 9.0 or higher, you may want to consult AOL customer support to see if there is a way to work around this Passport sign in issue. Do NOT click the link below unless you wish to pay using PayPal and a credit card. You will NOT be signed up if you click the link below and you do not pay via PayPal. It creates a backlog of pending unpaid subscriptions that I must delete after the fact. ONLY click the link below if you are paying with a credit card using PayPal or paying with an ECheck when you click the link. If not, please do NOT click the link below. If you want to pay by mail see the address above or mail Editor for details.
