Frequently Asked Questions

Thanks to Gemini for providing a lot of new FAQ's for the site!

Q. How many characters did Eileen Davidson play on DOOL?

A. Eileen Davidson enacted five roles on DAYS. She debuted as Kristen Blake in 1993 and in 1996 begun her many roles with Susan Banks, Sister Mary Moira Banks, Penelope Kent and Thomas Banks. Eileen was nominated for an Emmy but did not win her last year with Days of Our Lives which was 1998. Currently Susan Banks is living happily with husband while Kristen is believed to be dead by the people of Salem, though she is really locked in a dungeon on an island.

Q. Who is Gina?

Gina is the name of the woman Hope "pretended" to be when she was believed to be dead from 1990-1994. Hope was brainwashed and given the identity of Princess Gina to help Stefano steal paintings and do his bad deeds.

Q. So Stefano kidnapped Hope in 1990?

No, not at all. Hope was believed to have been dead after an accident with the magician known as Ernesto Toscano. Ernesto was obsessed with Hope and took her in a cage hanging over a vat of acid. Ernesto dropped Hope in the vat of acid and disappeared leading many to believe he died in the accident as well. Apparently, neither did.

Q. Did Josh Taylor play a character on DAYS previously?

Yes, and it wasn't Roman, who he is currently portraying. The original Roman was played by Wayne Northrop and then by Drake Hogestyn. Josh played the character of Chris Kositcheks 1977 to 1987. He returned in 1997 to replace Wayne Northrop after he decided to leave one more time. The character Josh played previously, Chris, left Salem alive and well making Josh's return as Roman even more awkward.

Q. What started the Brady vs. DiMera feud?

There are many answers to this question, including it was just one incident which was blown out of proportion. Roman and Stefano bumped shoulders crossing each other's paths and Roman set Stefano in his place using the law. From then on Stefano vowed revenge on the Brady's but it was always believed that there was much more. The Brady vs. DiMera feud has been laid to rest for now until a writer decides to put some effort (and logic) into writing it out.

Q. Why are the twins referred to as aliens?

Initially, Rex and Cassie "Doe" arrived to Salem during the comet showers of 2002. They appeared to have fallen off a space ship (which turned out to be a plane) and had glowing green bracelets on them. The two were dressed in casual clothing as similar to Adam and Eve (see question number 15!), and appeared to be lost. The green bracelets were being used to brain wash them as was later learned and Shawn and Belle finally showed Cassie and Rex what "human life" was all about. The twins are believed to be the children of Marlena and Tony though that too seemed false as well.

Q. How did Marlena get possessed by the devil, was it a mistake of Stefano gone wrong?

No not at all! The progression towards Marlena's satanic possession was all very simple. Towards the end of 1994, John soon became closer and closer to finding out who he really was. Through lost data from the demolished Maison Blanche, Kristen was able to learn that John was a Roman Catholic priest prior to Stefano taking control of him. This would mean the end of Kristen and John forever and it came at a crucial time as Kristen was trying to have children. At that point, Stefano was re-modeling the apartment next to Marlena's in the new penthouse and was building a secret passage way from Marlena's closet to "a different world". Stefano soon begun hypnotizing Marlena making her very weak and susceptible to anything. This paved the way for the devil to possess Marlena but the devil was really hoping to get to John to sway his mind from returning back to the priest hood.

Q. Why did Kate and Laura hate each other?

Jamie Lynn Bauer took over the role as Laura Horton in 1993. Laura had fallen sick after discovering that her husband, Bill Horton, had an affair with a woman. It turned out that woman was Kate, a woman who had been in Salem many years ago. That affair produced Lucas Roberts and a hatred that would never leave Laura.

Q. Was Melissa Reeves (Jennifer Rose Deveraux) Ever Fired From Days?

No, but her departure from the soap in 1995 carried with it a lot of controversy! Melissa Reeves left the soap in 1995 because of marital problems with husband Scott Reeves (who was at that time on The Young and The Restless). Apparently, there had been something doing with Melissa and Jason Brooks who was currently playing Peter Blake, Jennifer's new love. Melissa terminated her contract very early and against the show's wishes stating that her family was important and she needed to put them first. Melissa was later sued for her actions and was upset though it is very evident that all things have been forgiven as Melissa reprised her role as Jennifer in 1999, a mere four years after. Upon Melissa's exit in 1995, Stephanie Cameron took over the role of Jennifer temporarily so that Jack and Jennifer could be written off the canvas.

Q. Have there ever been ghosts in Salem?

Yes, there is one on the canvas now! Isabella Toscano Kiriakis Black, played by Staci Greason, died of pancreatic cancer in 1992. She returned in 1995 to play the ghost of Isabella and has been on the canvas sporadically ever since. She frequents her son, Brady Black, on a somewhat regular basis. In addition, Jennifer was a fake ghost (at that time played by Stephanie Cameron) when Jennifer pretended to be dead to throw Peter off guard and get him out of her life forever. Curtis Reed, father of Billie and Austin Reed, played by Nick Benedict died at the hands of Stefano DiMera in 1993. Since then he has haunted quite frankly everyone as a ghost, especially Billie, Austin and Marlena during her possession. Other ghosts include the Angel Gabe who was said to be John's guardian angel.

Q. Who was "The Lady In White"?

As many will recall, The Lady in White, who was believed to be a ghost initially and made all attempts to be presented as one, was Rachel Blake, mother of Peter and Kristen Blake. Rachel was believed to have died in a horrible explosion with her husband when Peter and Kristen were little kids. That explosion was caused by Stefano DiMera and is how Stefano became the parents of Peter and Kristen. Stefano also loved Rachel dearly and kept her hidden at the house in Aremid (DiMera, back words), only to re-surface in 1995 when the people of Salem visited Aremid. Rachel had a terrible scar on her face and pranced around with a table cloth covering her face so that no one would see it. Rachel suffered another faux death in 1996 in a tunnel in Paris and is believed to be dead though her body was not found.

Q. Is Steve a.k.a. Patch Johnson Dead?

No, is anyone?! But Steve a.k.a. Patch Johnson (played by Stephen Nichols) is believed to be dead. Steve Johnson has been on the canvas from 1985-1990 and was believed to have died in the hospital after an explosion but viewers learned his coffin was empty at the time of burial. No one knows where he is.

Q. Why did Vivian Hate Carly so much?

Vivian (played by Louise Sorel) wanted Carly (Crystal Chapel)'s son, Nicholas. Nicholas was Vivian's nephew and Vivian felt Carly could not take care of him, Vivian was even more sure that Nicholas belonged to her because Vivian raised him, it wasn't until 1992 that Carly found her son. Carly refused to giver her custody of him. In addition, Carly also held close bonds to Victor who was Vivian's dream man.

Q. Was Shawn Douglas ever deaf?

Yes! Temporarily of course. Shawn Douglas, then played by Scott Groff, fell down a mine shaft while playing with a friend in a desolate oil company compound. Carly, then vying for Bo's love, went down the shaft to save him but was frightened by the fact that Shawn D. did not answer her calls. It turned out that Shawn D. was temporarily deaf. Eventually and with Carly's help, Shawn D. recovered, at the perfect time as well to spill the beans on what his grand dad Victor was doing at the time.

Q. Explain The Garden of Eden in Salem?!

After her identity crisis, Greta, played by Julianne Morris, was preparing for her coronation as Princess in 1999. To do so she had to go through a lieu of "tests" which included a simile of the Garden of Eden. She and Austin (Austin Peck), went through trials of tribulations as Adam and Eve.

Q. Have characters ever returned from the dead in Salem?

Who are you kidding? There are too many to list, but here are a few. Marlena was believed to have been dead in a plane crash but was later seen on a Spanish Island comatose. Previously, Marlena was believed to have been killed by the Salem Strangler in 1982, but it turned out to be her twin sister, Samantha Evans. Later, Marlena would be believed to have been dead during many of her kidnappings. Hope returned from the dead in 1994, she had amnesia and had been living at Maison Blanche for the time being. Like Marlena, during many of her kidnappings, Hope had been believed to be dead as well. Hope also suffered a near death accident in an avalanche in 1995 in which once again, people thought she was dead. Stefano DiMera has risen from the dead more than eight times, Tony DiMera has returned a few times as well.

Q. Who is Hope's mother? How is she related to Julie?

Believe it or not, Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is Hope's sister! Hope's mother is Addie Horton, who was married to Doug Williams (Bill Hayes). Addie was killed during Hope's childhood when she was involved in accident in which she pushed Hope's stroller out of the way only to get hit by the car. Addie had Julie with her previous husband Bill Olson.

Q. Whatever happened to Jamie Caldwell?

Jamie Caldwell (Miriam Perrish) was Sami's best friend. She was last involved in a major storyline regarding her father's abusive ways. Billie intervened to help her because she had been through the same thing, after all was well and her father was taken care of, Jamie left town.

Q. Does John Black have an identity?

No. The character of John Black, played by Drake Hogestyn for seventeen years has been everything from a missionary, a priest, a criminal and more. Originally John was thought to be Roman Brady- post face surgery- but when the real Roman was revealed John set out to find out who he was. It turned out that he could have been Forrest Alamain, nephew of Vivian Alamain, however there was no concrete evidence to support this. John still has no idea where his life was pre-Roman Brady II but has been given bits and pieces via several DiMera journeys. John is now believed to be the daughter of Daphne DiMera via an affair with a mystery man.

Q. What happened to Carrie's mother, Anna?

Anna, played by Leanne Hunley, left Salem in 1986 leaving Tony DiMera in the smoke. She was currently having a bad relationship with DiMera after she had been previously married to Roman (Wayne Northrop- at that time), which produced Carrie. Anna's hasn't been heard of or seen of since but did leave Tony hanging and is believed to be in Europe.

Q. Where did Celeste come from? Where is she now?

Celeste, played by Tanya Boyd, is actually very much on the canvas though on a flexible schedule. The actress is usually around when the storyline needs her the most. Celeste was first seen at Maison Blanche as one of Stefano's best companions (nicely put). Upon her debut via Maison Blanche, she helped Stefano kidnap Marlena, kidnap John, keep Kristen away from the truth but ultimately she was taking care of Gina the whole time.

Q. What happened when Peter Reckell returned to DAYS the second time?

Well, Robert Kelker Kelly replaced Peter Reckell in 1992 after Bo (and Peter Reckell) rode off into the darkness. Robert was a very popular re-cast for obvious reasons but once Kristian Alfonso returned in 1994 as Bo's believed dead wife, Hope, the word was that Kristian was not jiving with Robert very much and that that would hinder what was once one of the biggest super couples on DAYS. For whatever reason, the show asked Peter to returned and he did and has been on the show ever since.

Q. Why did DAYS let Joseph Mascolo leave his role as Stefano DiMera?

This is the most recent daytime shocker as Joseph has been a mainstay for Days' history and has always been the show's biggest villain. Joseph wanted more from Corday and producers at Days and they failed to give it to him. After they failed to negotiate a deal Joseph left on unfriendly terms with Ken Corday and was not too long picked up by Bradley Bell on The Bold and The Beautiful. Currently, Stefano is believed to be dead, though he left Salem commenting on the future of its youngsters very much alive and well.

Q. How is Lexie a DiMera?!

Lexie (Renee Jones) is the product of an affair Celeste had with Stefano years ago. Celeste was desperate to give up Lexie because she feared if Stefano knew she was his daughter he would take control of her and make her evil. Lexie for all her life had known Celeste to be her "Aunt Frankie". In 1995, Lexie's brother in law (Jonah, played by Thyme Lewis) discovered that Lexie is not a Carver and that her past history indicates that she was adopted. Lexie then learned that her aunt Frankie was her actual mother. Celeste then went through great pains to reveal finally that Stefano is her father.

Q. How was MacDonald Carey's Death Presented in Salem?

MacDonald Carey (Tom Horton) and Frances Reid (Alice Horton) are the real super couple of Days of Our Lives as both were on the show since its conception. MacDonald Carey passed away in early 1994 but his death was not presented on the show until June 1994. Alice went upstairs to discover that Tom had begun an eternal nap the night before. MacDonald Carey's voice starts off Days of Our Lives and has started it off for a long time.

Q: Who is Greta's father?

A: No one knows for sure, but we do know that before she left the show she told John he was NOT her father. So that eliminates him.
